Pre-conference and morning sessions

Pre-educational course

November 6, 2019 from 09:30 to 16:00

This year, the pre-educational course is chaired by Tristan Barber and Laura Waters.


It is aimed primarily at students, doctors in training or those at an early stage of their career, although all are welcome. A combination of short lectures and case-based teaching from speakers across Europe will cover the following topics:

  • Chem sex: East and West
  • Non-AIDS respiratory issues
  • Dermatology in the modern era of HIV
  • Zzzzzzz: Sleep issues beyond efavirenz
  • Using new ARVs in real life

It will conclude with a session delivered by the EACS Young Investigators Network (YING).

Registration is organised through the conference registration, on a first-come, first-served basis and is free of charge.

WAVE workshop

November 6, 2019 from 10:00 to 13:00

The WAVE workshop will be held before the 17th European AIDS Conference in Basel, Switzerland on November 6, 2019 from 10:00-13:00 and will discuss the topics of menopause and ageing, PrEP in women and breastfeeding. More details will follow at a later stage.


Registration is organised through the conference registration, on a first-come, first-served basis and is free of charge.

Meet-the-expert sessions

November 7 and 8, 2019 from 07:30 to 08:30

As part of the conference programme, six meet-the-expert sessions will be chaired by experts and deal with the following topics:

  • TB (co-organised with ESCMID), José M. Miro (Spain)
  • Medical writing (organised by Karger)
  • Drug resistance in HIV and how to treat?, Linos Vandekerckhove (Belgium); Annemarie Wensing (Netherlands)
  • Prevention, screening, and treatment: Are we ignoring anal cancer in PLWH?, Stefan Esser (Germany); Boris Revollo (Spain)
  • HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders and neurological complications – An update, Andrea Calcagno (Italy); Matthias Cavassini (Switzerland)
  • Vaccination in HIV: Which vaccine for whom?, Christoph Fux (Switzerland); Carolynne Schwarze-Zander (Germany)
  • HIV and the liver, Christoph Boesecke (Germany); Marina Klein (Canada)

The number of seats is limited and registration is organised on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is free of charge and should be made through the conference registration. Please be aware that if a session is fully booked, it will no longer be available during the registration process.

Clinical cases session

November 9, from 07:30 to 08:30

A clinical cases session will be held on the last day of the Conference and will present the best submitted clinical cases. It will be an interactive session chaired by Hansjakob Furrer (Switzerland) and David Jilich (Czech Republic).


Clinical cases submission is open until September 2, 2019.
