Practical Information

How to get there?

Located in Switzerland at the heart of Europe, Basel and its conveniently situated congress facilities will host the 17th European AIDS Conference. The Congress Center Basel (CCB) enjoys a downtown location directly adjacent to the Basel Exhibition Centre. Travel times are short, and the historic old town can be reached on foot or by public transport in a few minutes.

All guests who stay in a hotel in Basel receive a personal guest card when they check in. The BaselCard enables guests to use public transport in the city of Basel and its surroundings (including EuroAirport) free of charge for the duration of their stay.

Travel by airplane

Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport (EuroAirport) is 15 minutes’ drive from the Congress Center Basel. It is also possible to reach it by public transportation: Bus no. 50 from the airport to the Swiss railway station (Bahnhof SBB), tram no. 2 from the station to Messeplatz (Congress Center Basel).

Basel can be reached in an hour from Zurich Airport. There are frequent trains from Zurich city center to the Swiss railway station (Bahnhof SBB) in Basel.

Travel by railway

Basel is an international rail hub with direct ICE, IC and EC daytime and nighttime connections from Germany, Austria, Italy, France and the Benelux countries.

All three of Basel’s railway stations – SBB (Switzerland), SNCF (France) and DB (Badischer Bahnhof, Germany) – are within 5 to 10 minutes from the Congress Center Basel.

For guests travelling from Germany: MCH Messe Basel and "Deutsche Bahn" have long-term, fixed-price contracts allowing congress participants to travel to and from all parts of Germany at a flat rate (as of EUR 49,50 for one-way).

Travel by car

Basel is the point where the Swiss, French and German motorway networks meet. The area where the Congress Center Basel is located has its own motorway exit (“Messe” exit on the A2 motorway) and will lead you to the congress center directly. There is a car park (Parkhaus Messe Basel) with space for 1,200 vehicles. From there, follow the signs directing you to the Congress Center Basel.
